About
Dr. Cameron Tracy is a Senior Research Scholar at the Berkeley Risk and Security Lab. His interdisciplinary research and teaching are focused on the interface between science, technology, and global security policy. This includes both technical assessment of the security implications of new weapons technologies and sociological examination of when, why, and how states choose to develop, deploy, use, and relinquish those technologies. His recent projects address, for example, the capabilities of hypersonic missile and missile defense systems, strategies for the disposal of fissile materials, and forecasting of international competition over AI technologies. In addition to this policy-relevant work, he conducts experimental physics research on the atomic-scale behavior of complex materials in extreme environments of temperature, pressure, and irradiation.
Dr. Tracy previously worked at Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, the Union of Concerned Scientists, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. He holds a PhD in materials science & engineering from the University of Michigan.
