The Berkeley Risk and Security Lab seeks to bring robust academic research at the intersection of technology and security into policy spaces worldwide, while providing a common resource for learning, exploration, and engagement to the UC Berkeley campus, broader academic community, and public and private sectors.
What We Do
Research and Analysis
BRSL’s research and analysis represent the core function of the Lab. Our research is rooted in rigorous academic scholarship and innovation. BRSL research is conducted through both in-house initiatives and external partnerships. Our research underpins the entirety of the Lab’s activities, informing the way we approach academics, programs, and policy engagement.
Academics and Programs
Through UC Berkeley, BRSL supports academic courses, academic programs, student groups, and student research, including working with several undergraduate research assistants and graduate fellows joining us from different departments across UC Berkeley and beyond. The Lab also runs a slate of core programs focused on technology and security with the goal of upskilling the next generation of scholars and professionals and building new professional networks in both the public and private sectors.
Policy Engagement
Finally, BRSL ensures our work reaches policymakers and practitioners globally. We are continuously translating our research and analysis via engagement with stakeholders from across public and private sectors, as well as civil society.
